Typefaces- These are a combination of characters, letters, symbols and punctuation.
Tracking- controls the space between letters in equal amounts.
Leading– Works on vertical plane and refers to the space between the lines and a text block.
Kerning- Removal of space between letters.
Baseline– Where all the letters sit.
Ligatures– Replace consecutive characters sharing common componments and are part of a more general class of ‘glyphs’ called ‘contextual forms’ where specific shape of letter depends on context such as surrounding letters approximity to the end of line.
Design is as much much an art of spacing as an art of marking.
